PROTECTING YOUR RIGHTS AND YOUR FREEDOM
If you have had a little too much to drink or you have partaken in illicit substances before driving, there is a chance you could be charged with a DWI. A DWI, also called driving while intoxicated, can be an alcohol or drug-related offense. While most people don’t mean to get behind the wheel while inebriated, simply having one drink too many or taking the wrong prescription medication can lead to jail time, fines, and a permanent criminal record.

Our legal team at Renauro Law has years of experience helping clients maintain their driving privileges and avoid the severe criminal consequences that could come after a DWI charge. Whether this is your first offense or a felony charge, criminal charges can lead to job loss, strained personal relationships, and debt. WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL PENALTIES FOR A DWI?
Whether you are arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the punishments are largely the same. Your penalties may also depend on your criminal history plus any prior DWI or DUI charges you have faced.
The potential penalties for a DWI include:
Twenty-four hours to one year of jail time, up to $1,000 in fines, and a license suspension of six months.
Seven days to one year of jail time, up to $3,000 in fines, and a license suspension of 24 months.
Ninety days to one year of jail time, up to $5,000 in fines, and a license suspension of 30 months.
In Arkansas, a driver is considered underage if they are 20 years or younger. The standard for underage drivers is much higher, and having a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.02% or more can lead to criminal charges. First-time offenders could face a license suspension, $500 in fines, and a mandatory drug and alcohol program.
If your license suspension causes a hardship, meaning it prevents you from getting to and from work or school, you may be able to apply for a restricted license with restricted driving privileges. Our DWI attorneys at Renauro Law can assist you with your application.
